Our Programs

The Mona Moede Early Learning Center provides North-side families with high-quality early childhood education programs for children from birth to kindergarten.

Our friendly, welcoming staff are happy to provide families with tours of our building and discuss our program offerings.

We offer classes for parents and their child (ECFE) and preschool programs for three-year-olds and four-year-olds. More program information is listed below.

EARLY CHILDHOOD FAMILY EDUCATION (ECFE) - Fall/Winter 2018 classes offered at Mona Moede are listed below


Threes and Fours; 1-3 pm

  • Early childhood time focuses on developing school readiness skills through play and learning activities
  • Parent education focuses on topics relevant to a preschooler and preparing children for kindergarten
  • Both one and two day classes are attended by both parents and children
  • Children must be 3 years old by September 1, 2018

Adventures in Parenting; 5-7 pm

  • Parent education will focus on child development, school readiness, temperament, guiding behavior and sibling relationships.


Toddlers and Twos (18-36 months); 9:30-11:30 am

  • Children and parents enjoy time together singing, playing and learning. During parent discussion time, the early childhood staff engage the children in planned activities while parents gather nearby, in the same room. Parent topics include child development, guiding behavior, sleep and nutrition in addition to parent joys and concerns. These classes are for you if you and your child are not ready to separate or simply prefer to stay together.

Talking with Children about Race; 5-7 pm, Offered on Tuesdays from September 4 to October 30, 2018

  • Join a licensed parent educator in courageous conversations about how to talk with young children about race and understand how children form racial identities. The Early Childhood portion of the class will focus on building positive identities through embracing and acknowledging differences.

Adoptive, Foster and Kinship Families;  5-7 pm; Offered on Tuesdays from November 6, 2018 to January 22, 2019

  • Families come in many different sizes, colors and makeups. We invite adoptive, foster and kinship families to join us in an ECFE class that explores parent and child development through an adoptive/foster family lens.


Adventures in Parenting; 9:30-11:30 am

  • Parent education will focus on child development, school readiness, temperament, guiding behavior and sibling relationships.


Oromo/Amharic Adventures in Parenting; 9-11 am

Multi-cultural Adventures in Parenting; 11:30 am-1:30 pm

  • Spend time playing with your child along with parents and children of a variety of cultural backgrounds. During parent discussion, parents will share parenting practices and critically examine research-based information using a cultural lens.


Somali Adventures in Parenting; 9:30-11:30 am

HIGH FIVE: Preschool for four-year-olds

Hours: XX am - XX pm; Monday through Friday

The High Five program is a preschool program for children who turn four on or by Sept. 1 and will start kindergarten the following fall. Find out what students learn in High Five.

Apply online or  complete a school request form that is posted on the Student Placement Services website. For questions and help with applying to High Five, call at 612.668.1840.

PLEASE NOTE: Priority placement for High Five goes to students who meet one or more of the following criteria:

  • Qualifies for free or reduced lunch (based on family income)
  • Is an English Learner (home language is not English)
  • Is homeless
  • Has an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or an individual interagency intervention plan
  • Is identified, through health and developmental screenings, with a potential risk factor that may influence learning
  • Is defined as at risk by Minneapolis Public Schools
  • Lives in the school’s attendance zone (this is not a legislated priority but is a priority for schools)

THREE SCHOOL: Preschool for three-year-olds

Hours: 8-11 am or 11:30-2:30 pm; Monday through Friday

What students learn: Three School is a time children learn school skills to get ready for High Five.
